What is PET-CT?
PET-CT is an advanced medical imaging method consisting of a combination of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT) imaging methods, which simultaneously shows the metabolic activity and anatomical structure of cells in the body.
In 2000, it was selected as the 'invention of the year' in the field of medicine by TIME magazine. It is used in the diagnosis, staging and follow-up of cancer, neurological and cardiological diseases.

The PET-CT process is completed in an average of 2–3 hours, including preparation, post-injection waiting, and scanning stages. The waiting time is necessary for the substance given to spread correctly in the body. After the scan is completed, the vast majority of patients can easily return to their normal lives on the same day.
The radiation dose used during PET-CT is within the limits considered safe for medical diagnosis. Modern devices are optimized to offer high image quality with the lowest possible dose. The detailed data obtained is of critical importance for early diagnosis and correct treatment planning, especially in serious diseases such as cancer.
To obtain an accurate result, you are usually asked to fast for a few hours before the scan. In addition, limiting physical movement and keeping blood sugar levels under control is of great importance. Because the special substance used is distributed according to the energy use of the cells, and this directly affects the image quality.
PET-CT is most preferred for cancer diagnosis, determining the spread of the disease, and following the treatment process. Besides this, it also provides important information in the evaluation of some neurological and cardiological diseases. Showing both metabolic activity and anatomical structure at the same time distinguishes it from other imaging methods.
The radioactive substance given to the body is usually largely eliminated within the first 24 hours. Drinking plenty of water is very effective in speeding up this process. Although there is a short-term low-level radiation effect, this situation is temporary and usually does not pose a risk that would restrict daily life.

Since it's a private but university hospital, my favorite aspect is the communication between departments; if there's another condition accompanying your illness, they get support immediately, so you don't have to go from doctor to doctor.
